Our camp begins with the most popular ballet of all ballets-
Swan lake: Music by Tchaikovsky, this famous ballet based on a Russian folk tale tells the story of Odette, a princess turned into a swan by a sorcier’s spell.
An alternate theme for this week is Mamma Mia, a musical based on ABBA songs!

The theme for this week is the fun and beloved ballet-
The Nutcracker: Music by Tchaikovsky, this popular ballet explains how the Prince was turned into the Nutcracker and through many adventures in beautiful fanciful lands, the young heroine Marie follows him until he is transformed to his usual self.
An alternate for this week is the Carnival of Animals, a musical suite of fourteen movements with fourteen different types of animals by the French composer Camille Saint-Saens.

The theme for this week is a well known, dramatic ballet-
Sleeping Beauty: Music by Tchaikovsky. A familiar favorite ballet. The premise: The King and his Queen have welcomed their first child, Princess Aurora, and declare a grand christening ceremony to honor her. Six fairies are invited to the ceremony to bestow gifts on the child. Each fairy represents a virtue or positive trait, such as beauty, courage, sweetness, musical talent, and mischief…
As an alternate for this week, students will create a ballet with the theme of Fluttering faeries based on faerie scenes from famous ballets.

Summer Dance Camp, Week 05 |
Our theme this week is full of humor and theatre-
Coppelia; is a comic ballet originally choreographed by Arthur Saint-Léon to the music of Léo Delibes. The synopsis; Dr. Coppélius is a doctor who has made a life-size dancing doll. It is so lifelike that Franz, a village youth, becomes infatuated with it and sets aside his true heart’s desire, Swanhilda. She shows him his folly by dressing as the doll, pretending to make it come to life and ultimately saving him from an untimely end at the hands of the inventor.
As an alternate for this week, students will create a ballet with the theme of Fluttering faeries based on faerie scenes from famous ballets.

Typical Daily Schedule

9:00 – 9:15 – Welcome children, talk about the day and week.

9:15- 10:15 – Ballet stretching and strengthening exercises as well as ballet barre

10:15- 10:45 – Bathroom/ snack time/ read books

10:45- 12:15 – Art related to the ballet theme of the week, fun theater exercises, work on choreography

12:15- 1 PM – Lunch. Outside play and dress up creative play

1 PM–2 PM – Either watch a DVD of the ballet they are studying or read stories about the ballet of the week.

2PM – Closing the day activities, Pick-up time
